Back in 2010, the world was shocked to witness that a 2-year-old boy from Indonesia was addicted to smoking cigarettes. In fact, he smoked up to 40 cigarettes a day. A video of the boy Ardi Rizal puffing on cigarettes went viral. The boy’s parents had an excuse that their child is addicted to cigarettes, which horrified the world. Moreover, the parents even thought their child looked perfectly healthy.

Indonesia struggles with chain smoking and about 30% of the children there start smoking at the age of them. What’s more, there is a claim that in 2008, over 165 billion cigarettes were sold in the Indonesia.

What Happened Next?

The story of the 2-year-old boy was a shock to the world. The widespread attention and disgust attracted the Indonesian government to undertake steps. Hence, Andi was put in a rehabilitation program to help him break this horrible habit. Moreover, due to this particular case, the Indonesian government was forced to launch a nationwide campaign to end childhood smoking.

In the rehabilitation program, Ardi overcame his smoking addiction. However, this addiction was quickly replaced it with another harmful habit. Ardi started consuming junk food and as a result at the age of 6, he became obese.

Fortunately, Ardi’s parents in collaboration with a good nutritionist placed Ardi on a strict diet. Hence, Ardi is now 8 and he neither smokes cigarettes nor eats junk food. He decided to stay away from the dreadful habits and he has his parents’ support.
